Scattergood Transformation Fund

More than two centuries ago, Thomas Scattergood helped introduce a more humane approach to mental health care in the United States—one grounded in dignity, relationship, and “tender, sympathetic attention.” His work reflected a belief that improving people’s lives requires changing not only how individuals are treated, but also the institutions and systems responsible for their care. The Scattergood Transformation Fund carries that legacy forward by investing in ambitious, sustained efforts to transform behavioral health systems across Greater Philadelphia.

Today’s behavioral health challenges are complex and deeply interconnected. The Scattergood Transformation Fund supports organizations, coalitions, and cross-sector partnerships working toward a stronger, more effective, compassionate, and inclusive behavioral health system. Grants are intended for larger, longer-term efforts that center human dignity, elevate lived experience, and address the conditions that produce inequitable outcomes.

Daring Ideas

When Thomas Scattergood encountered a more compassionate approach to mental health care, he saw the possibility of something different and took action to bring that idea home. His legacy reminds us that meaningful change often begins when someone is willing to question what exists, imagine what could be better, and take a thoughtful risk. Daring Ideas Grants support organizations ready to test a promising response to a mental health, substance use, or emotional wellbeing challenge in Greater Philadelphia.

These grants provide space to explore a new program, apply an existing practice in a different way, or build unexpected partnerships. Ideas do not need to be fully proven, but they should respond to a clearly identified need, be grounded in community insight and existing evidence, and have the potential to inform future work. Daring Ideas Grants are intended for focused, time-limited experimentation rather than the routine continuation or expansion of an established program.

A successful project will generate meaningful learning that can contribute to a more compassionate, responsive, and equitable approach to behavioral health.

Kensington Community Resilience Fund

By community, for community, the Kensington Community Resilience Fund (KCR Fund) amplifies resident voices and celebrates the vibrancy and strength of the Kensington, Harrowgate, and Fairhill communities. Through a community-led, participatory grantmaking model, residents help shape funding priorities and direct resources to organizations that promote wellness, build resilience, and improve quality of life for residents in neighborhoods that have been harmed by the opioid crisis and other inequities.
