By 2023, WHYY's Behavioral Health Reporting Initiative had expanded its impact well beyond the Philadelphia region, reaching national audiences through The Pulse, which was carried by more than 130 public radio stations across the United States and internationally. With continued support from the Scattergood Foundation, the initiative produced trusted, evidence-based reporting on a wide range of behavioral health topics—including anxiety, childhood adversity, addiction, and end-of-life care—helping to increase public understanding, reduce stigma, and bring critical mental health conversations to communities nationwide.

With continued support from the Scattergood Foundation, the initiative increased behavioral health reporting across broadcast, digital, and national audiences, covering timely issues such as youth mental health, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, addiction, trauma, and emerging research. Over more than a decade, the initiative generated thousands of news stories, feature reports, and interviews that elevated public understanding of behavioral health, reduced stigma, and brought greater attention to the policies, systems, and personal experiences shaping mental health in the region.
