PA Groundhogs provides no-to-low-cost drug checking services and technology designed to identify emerging substances and reduce public health risks associated with Pennsylvania’s changing illicit drug supply. PA Groundhogs was funded to participate in the Community Health Capacity Initiative, which pairs unrestricted grant funding with tailored technical assistance and coaching through the Public Health Impact Hub at the University of Pennsylvania.

PA GROUNDHOGS was funded to expand access to free, real-time drug-checking information for individuals and community organizations across Pennsylvania and neighboring states. Through a partnership with the Center for Forensic Science Research & Education, its multidisciplinary team of chemists, toxicologists, drug-market experts, ethnographers, and public health professionals analyzes emerging substances and provides context about changes in the local drug supply. Funding also supported the expansion of GoGroundhogs.org, a white-label platform being piloted in Trenton, New Jersey, to help additional communities access timely drug-supply information and strengthen harm-reduction efforts.
