The Center for Leadership Equity strengthened Black-led nonprofit organizations across the Greater Philadelphia region by providing Black nonprofit leaders with customized leadership development, capacity-building opportunities, access to funding resources, and advocacy tools. Created in response to longstanding inequities in the nonprofit sector, the initiative helped leaders build organizational capacity, expand networks, and advance racial equity while supporting the communities they serve.
The Center for Leadership Equity was launched by the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in partnership with six regional funders, including the Scattergood Foundation.
The Regional Pooled Wellness Fund supported the mental health and well-being of nonprofit staff across the Greater Philadelphia region by investing in opportunities that promoted connection, reflection, and resilience. Through workshops, wellness experiences, peer learning, and other capacity-building activities, the initiative helped nonprofit professionals prevent burnout, strengthen relationships with colleagues across organizations, and develop sustainable practices for personal and organizational well-being. By centering the people who power the nonprofit sector, the fund contributed to a healthier, more connected, and more resilient community.
The initiative was made possible through a collaborative partnership among the Samuel S. Fels Fund, the Independence Public Media Foundation, the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and the Scattergood Foundation.
