The mission of the Uplift Center for Grieving Children is to help children grieving a death heal and grow through their grief, while strengthening families, communities, and professionals' understanding of how best to respond to their needs.
Uplift Center for Grieving Children was funded to provide school-based and community grief groups for youth and caregivers, build emotional regulation and peer connection, dedicate a bilingual clinician to outreach, and develop partnerships that improve access to grief services in high-need neighborhoods.
Uplift was funded to provide five bilingual grief trainings for schools, community organizations, leaders, activists, and KCR Fund grantees, equipping up to 400 people with skills and resources to support grieving youth and families and address their own grief.
Uplift Center for Grieving Children was funded to expand the Philly HopeLine, a free, trauma-informed support helpline providing Philadelphia youth and families with grief and mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic and other community crises. Funding supported increased clinical and case management capacity, virtual grief groups, dedicated services for populations including LGBTQIA+ youth and bilingual families, and expanded post-crisis support. Through phone, text, email, and video, Uplift clinicians provided immediate support, connected callers to longer-term mental health and grief services through warm referrals, and helped youth and families develop healthy coping strategies, reduce isolation, and build resilience.
