Immigrant Rights Action came into being as a neighborhood collective that immediately responded to a call to action in March 2017 in response to an ICE raid in Doylestown that apprehended four young restaurant workers. They crowdsourced funding to secure legal representation for them and thereby created a grassroots group focused on ensuring legal access to Bucks County’s immigrant community.

The From Volunteer Led to Immigrant Led program promoted healing and resilience in immigrant communities through expansion of existing programs, including legal services and and community education. In addition to expanding existing programs, Immigrant Rights Action implemented an ITIN program and a mental health access program, which collaborated with bilingual mental health providers to refer clients to free mental health services.

Immigrant Rights Action received a grant to support their Building a Network of Support for Legal, Social, and Mental Health Needs program. The program, which serves largely Central American immigrants in Bucks County, provided legal services for undocumented individuals, asylum-seekers, and non-citizen criminal defendants in danger of detention and deportation. The grant also supported their Roundtable Network, which convened representatives from 75 organizations to address emerging community needs.
