PB&J will bring our Cook, Eat, Daily Lesson, and Get Paid to the youth of Kensington ages 12 to 19.
Thanks to the Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Fund, PB&J brings our Cook, Eat, Daily Lesson, and Get Paid to the youth of Kensington ages 12 to 19. PB&J is an after-school cooking program providing a safe space for youth to connect with caring adults, local opportunities, and essential resources while learning real-life skills around food preparation/planning, nutrition, self-care, and emotional regulation.
We combine evidence-based practices with the wisdom of human experience. We pioneer the use of cooking to teach neurosequential approaches to mental health. We teach, model, and practice healthy responses to stress. We also acknowledge the healing power of community and communal meals. We have witnessed both young people applying our evidenced-based approaches in moments of frustration and making new friends as they eat food prepared together. Our training and experience confirm, that people learn best with full stomachs, safe among friends, and with the smell of food lingering in the air.
We meet our young people where they are and learn from them. Our approach is relationship-based. Our vision is a Kensington where all young people are confident, safe, have a supportive community of peers, positive adult role models, and the tools to pursue their ambitions. With this grant, we fight to keep the present opioid crisis from replicating with the next generation.
