We fund organizations and projects which disrupt our current behavioral health space and create impact at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.

Our participatory funds alter traditional grantmaking by shifting power
to impacted communities to direct resources and make funding decisions.

Special Grant Programs

We build public and private partnerships to administer grant dollars toward targeted programs.

Program Related Investments

We provide funds at below-market interest rates that can be particularly useful to start, grow, or sustain a program, or when results cannot be achieved with grant dollars alone.

Leveling the Playing Field

Kensington Community Resilience Fund

Leveling the Playing Field gives young people from underserved communities the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports participation.

About

Leveling the Playing Field gives young people from underserved communities the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports participation.

We do so by gathering new and used sporting equipment from the community and stocking a well-organized warehouse with head-to-toe needs for local coaches to “shop” for their teams at no cost. Our free equipment allows programs to lower registration fees, expand scholarship programs and otherwise enhance or expand their athletic and programmatic offerings. In our first year in Philadelphia (2022), 200 schools and youth programs applied to receive equipment, and we continue to see an increase in 2023. In the grant’s catchment area, we have served 16 schools and youth programs so far, and 78% of them have come back to shop the warehouse more than once.

Our goal for 2023 is to distribute at least $75,000 worth of gear to at least 20 different programs in the Kensington area. This will require us to continue our outreach to build relationships and awareness of our programs among teachers, coaches, and youth development workers. It will also require us to continue to ramp up our collection program by outreach to public and independent schools and colleges as well as professional sports teams in the region. Our staff will build and engage a local Advisory Board to guide our programming and expand our visibility and reach and running our collection, volunteer engagement, and distribution programs.
