Building community-centered mental health capacity

Community Fund for Wellness

Puentes de Salud will sustain and deepen their wellness work by supporting behavioral health consultants and promotora team.

About

Puentes de Salud (Bridges of Health) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that impacts the health and wellness of Philadelphia’s rapidly growing Latinx immigrant population. The Puentes clinic provides linguistically- and culturally-relevant healthcare via 10,000 annual visits. In their Wellness branch, Promotoras serve an average of 500 individuals each year through 650 touch points. Likewise, their behavioral health consultants serve about 215 individuals per year through 450 visits, and art and culture about 250 individuals per year.

With support from the Community Fund for Immigrant Wellness, Puentes de Salud will sustain and deepen their wellness work by supporting behavioral health consultants and working with their promotoras to facilitate support groups. Behavioral health consultants have proven to be critical assets in breaking down mental health stigma and improve access to mental health care that is dignified and respectful. The promotora team is a community-led exercise in facilitating care that is culturally responsive and community building. They work holistically and horizontally to design and iterate programs and services. During this grant period, promotoras will be supported to become primary conveners and facilitators of support groups by building skills and leadership.
