Mother of Mercy Kensington Resilience Program

Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Fund

Mother of Mercy House supports our neighbors both housed and unhoused in Kensington. This grant allows us to continue and expand the services we provide our community.

About

Mother of Mercy House supports our neighbors both housed and unhoused in Kensington. This grant allows us to continue and expand the services we provide our community. Our programs support those suffering from substance use disorder, providing education that empowers individuals while reducing stigma as well as proactive programs for children and families who experience trauma daily due the prevalence of drugs and violence on our neighborhood streets. We aim to educate the community on prevention and healing in an inviting and calm manner. We strive to engage and build trust among the people we serve so that they will accept our help, knowing it is delivered with love and respect. The trust built every day at Mother of Mercy House allows us to partner with others to meet many needs we cannot meet directly. Our work alongside Dr. Peter Clark and the Institute of Clinical Bioethics from St. Joseph’s University represents an example of a critical expanded partnership. From treating the wounds associated with SUD that often lead to amputation or even death from infection, to providing prenatal, preventative screenings and dental care, this program meets our entire neighborhood’s needs. The students and doctors from SJU treat our neighbors with profound respect, explaining their health issues and the dangers, striving to guide them into proper treatment and more comprehensive care. Our focus on building a solid and more functionally livable neighborhood will be enhanced with programs, from bringing in speakers and coaches to hosting community dinners and social events designed to engage and help neighbors connect in friendly and fun ways. For children and youth, we will continue to engage them in positive activities that discourage them from turning to drugs or the drug trade. We will hold educational workshops, continue outreach efforts, and provide valuable resources. Additionally, we will offer support groups, health clinics, and wellness initiatives. We are committed to creating safe spaces and implementing art and recreation programs for our community.
