Intercultural Wellness Program

Community Fund for Wellness

The Intercultural Wellness Program (IWP), is dedicated to fostering mental health and emotional well-being within immigrant communities.

About

The Intercultural Wellness Program (IWP), is dedicated to fostering mental health and emotional well-being within immigrant communities. Unlike clinical approaches, IWP adopts a community-based strategy, addressing social and emotional wellness challenges, particularly within the context of employment. IWP utilizes a whole-person, holistic perspective that acknowledges each person’s unique journey, actively combating stigmatization. Central to its ethos is the recognition that immigrants should define health and wellness on their own terms, reflecting their unique cultural perspectives, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all Western paradigm. In embracing diversity, IWP celebrates healing and coping practices drawn from various cultural backgrounds. Through a strengths-based approach, cohorts offer a supportive and therapeutic environment where individuals collectively address work-related challenges and aid each other in navigating their life and career paths. Training sessions within these cohorts encompass a wide range of wellness-focused subjects, with a particular focus on leadership development and honing collective action skills. Expert facilitators and guest lecturers from the Philadelphia region frequently contribute to these sessions, enriching the learning experience. Between sessions, participants collaborate in small groups to devise community action projects, providing practical opportunities to apply their newfound skills and knowledge.
