Opioid Awareness PSAs and Brunch with a Black Man

REACH PA

1Hood Media will raise awareness about drug use and overdose while providing a supportive and empowering mental wellness platform for Black men and mental health resources for Black people.

About

Brunch with a Black Man (BWABM), is a supportive and empowering mental wellness podcast focused on telling stories of Black men through transparent and candid conversations about the experiences of Black men, their mental health, and navigating challenging times. Black people are 20% more likely to suffer from severe psychological stress than their White counterparts. Even more daunting – Black men are four times more likely to commit suicide than their female counterparts. 1Hood Media launched the BWABM podcast in 2022 to provide a safe space to have conversations about mental health support including the impact of drugs on our community beyond the survival economy.

This project expands our programming through public service announcements (PSAs), outreach events, social media campaigns, partnerships with community organizations that have similar and supplemental programs, and connections with local Black businesses. We aim to raise awareness of safety precautions around drug use; prevent drug abuse, overdoses, and deaths resulting from drug use; provide a supportive and empowering mental wellness platform for Black men; and provide mental health resources for Black people.

We can make a real difference in the lives of people in our community through partnership. We can ensure Black people in Pittsburgh are served more holistically. This project leverages partnerships to expand reach, collaborate on a widespread solution and impact, and provide resources and services.
