Our participatory funds alter traditional grantmaking by shifting power
to impacted communities to direct resources and make funding decisions.
We build public and private partnerships to administer grant dollars toward targeted programs.
We provide funds at below-market interest rates that can be particularly useful to start, grow, or sustain a program, or when results cannot be achieved with grant dollars alone.

The Policy Meets Practice grant will support Amistad Law Project’s work at the intersections of racial and economic justice, mental health, and the criminal legal system. Amistad Law Project has worked with incarcerated people and their loved ones throughout COVID to understand their needs related to the pandemic and mental health. Their advocacy has focused on ensuring that policy makers are responsive to the rights and needs of incarcerated individuals and their families. Additionally, they are working to prevent incarceration through their work in the Defund the Police movement. Specifically, they are working with mental health professionals to advocate for investment in Alternative Responder Teams, in which unarmed first responders respond to emergencies and crises that don’t need police.
